Castro dei Volsci. Feast of San Sosio

Castro dei Volsci. Feast of San Sosio

The feast of San Sosio takes place on September 23 and consists of a solemn mass and a procession along the streets of Castro dei Volsci.

For this occasion, on the third Sunday of September, the event is enriched with popular traditions with songs and dances in the square such as the famous salterello.

The saltarello, or "ballarella", is accompanied by bagpipe and drum or accordion and tambourine.

It is a dance for a couple or a group that belongs to the courtship dance type. The saltarello was also a court dance in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
