Montelanico. Collemezzo Castle

Montelanico. Collemezzo Castle

The plateau of Collemezzo (or Colubro) is part of the famous Lepine Mountains and can be reached by car or on foot from Montelanico.

This plateau is located about seven kilometers from the town and is connected by paths to the neighbouring towns of Carpineto Romano, Segni and Norma, which is situated on the opposite slope of the Lepini overlooking the sea and the Pontine plain.

The pond "Colubro" and a mountain cottage have been built by the Doria-Pamphili family to give drink to cattle and people.

On the plateau are the remains of the Castle Collemezzo with a section of the tower, with a cistern and traces of defensive walls.

Built around a thousand, the castle was for three centuries the border of the Duchy of Ceccano and was destroyed in 1372 by Cori.
