A great tribute to Colleferro in the new council hall in the Corso Garibaldi headquarters in the presence of the vice president of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, and the vice president of the Lazio Region, Roberta Angelilli.
The Grand Master of Ceremonies and director of all the events, which will last over a year, is Pierluigi Sanna who, in addition to being the mayor of Colleferro, is also the deputy mayor of the Metropolitan Area of Rome Capital.
But let's do a very brief summary of the history of Colleferro which is one of the 7 Cities of Mussolini's Foundation and among these it is the only one with an industrial vocation, while the others were born to serve agriculture after the reclamation of the Pontine Plain.
The mayor wanted to give a positive and proud imprint to all the events: “For our history and the successes of our leading companies, which are the result of intelligence, preparation, our workers, our male and female workers, I say that with these celebrations we, yes it is true, remember our past, but we celebrate above all, and with the greatest possible vigor, our future”.
The history of Colleferro coincides with the industrial history of the Sacco Valley but also of all of Italy. Its growth is due to the war industry which then in recent years has increasingly specialized in space technologies becoming one of the flagships of Italian companies.
Colleferro aveva attratto maestranze da tutta Italia: ad esempio le mie due famiglie di origine erano arrivate dal Veneto e dal Friuli. Un mio nonno aveva iniziato a lavorare con i suoi fratelli come operai nei cantieri edili di Aprilia e poi insieme avevano fondato la loro impresa Furlan a Colleferro, ma anche il cinema Vittorio Veneto, e la sorella, zia Vittoria, aveva aperto la prima sanitaria del paese.
Un altro nonno era esperto in fonderia ed era arrivato in fabbrica prima della guerra ma, purtroppo, è morto giovane di tumore lasciando una piccola (di statura) moglie che per arrotondare lo stipendio insegnava a leggere e scrivere nelle scuole serali a tutti gli operai e i pompieri.
L’altra mia nonna friulana, anche lei maestra, se la ricordano ancora gli anziani del paese perché era riuscita a trasferirsi a Colleferro grazie al Sabato Fascista: era lei che insegnava ginnastica ai giovani il sabato mattina allo stadio di Colleferro. Se la ricordano soprattutto per le sue gambe mentre faceva ginnastica!
La nascita di Colleferro, con la sua struttura sociale e i servizi, richiama alla mente anche alcune realizzazioni ottocentesche del socialismo utopico, come le seterie borboniche di San Leucio a Caserta o anche le cartiere di Isola del Liri. Solo che a volere un paese e una società in cui si aveva a cuore il benessere dei suoi cittadini, la loro istruzione e la loro salute era stato un imprenditore del nord insieme ad un grande ingegnere come Riccardo Morandi.
È vero che la sicurezza in fabbrica non era il massimo, ma è anche vero che subito dopo gli incidenti che hanno causato gli scoppi della fabbrica, il re e Mussolini hanno varato una delle prime leggi sulla sicurezza nel posto di lavoro. Colleferro è stata apripista anche in questo settore.
