How to distinguish generations of spectators at the theatre

Colleferro, Teatro Vittorio Veneto

Another ‘sold out’ for the closing of the theatre season in Colleferro and I heard people who were already making an appointment for next year: “we’ll take the same seats and bring a friend of ours!

“Interno Camera” was the last event on the programme, then there will be a musical show about Pink Floyd as an out-of-season ticket, a test to see the audience’s approval rating.

“In Colleferro you have a very attentive and knowledgeable audience” said Paola Giglio at the end of the show, “and we can understand the age of the spectators from the applause and any comments”.

Matteo Prosperi and Paola Giglio were the leading actors, the producers, and Paola is also the author of the play that focuses on the life of a young couple in their thirties who struggle in a daily life made of precariousness.

A precariousness of work that is reflected in a precariousness of the soul of the couple who struggle between emotional uncertainties and small faded dreams on the horizon.

“For people of a certain age who grew up during the economic boom it would be impossible to manage the precariousness of the lives of today’s young people, and they almost feel guilty for the world they have left us. For us, however, this life is everyday life, and we can laugh at the situations we live.

So, from the audience’s reactions to our jokes, we can understand their age and their generation”.

I admit, I am of a certain age, and I didn’t laugh at all their stories. Some of them seemed bitter to me. But then I also felt sad about Alberto Sordi and Paolo Villaggio who represented the saddest sides of the human soul. If once this comedy made me want to change the world, today I feel like I haven’t managed to leave a better world to the new generations.

The show flew by, the rhythm of the text left no room for boredom and always invited laughter or reflection, and the two actors were true star performers. They held up the stage alone without even the help of special effects. A true author’s theater.

The surprise ending left everyone with a hope that whatever world we live in, love can win and give prospects of joy.

When I went to greet the actors at the end of the show and I learned that the company was from Ciampino, I asked about a very good former student of mine, and I discovered that she is Paola's sister. The world is small, and it is always worth leaving good memories because everything comes back.

The two sisters are really good! See you at the next show!
