Isola del Liri, Land of the Five Miracles

Where do you find this land? It is simple, in the 14 km stretch from Fibreno Lake Nature Reserve, it follows the Fibreno River and reaches the cascades of Isola del Liri.

FIRST MIRACLE:

God the Father has put a layer of impermeable clay under the Posta Fibreno commune, allowing 50 springs to pour us all the water from the Abruzzo National Park and create the wonderful pearl of Posta Fibreno Lake.

SECOND MIRACLE:

The lake gives rise to the Fibreno River that in Carnello forms an artificial island near the residential area and the Torre Follona that Cicero wrote about. Waterfalls are formed and the river brings a very clean water at a constant temperature of 12 degrees, which, does not allow the development of molds and bacteria, so is suitable for paper and wool processing. From here were built the oldest paper mills

THIRD MIRACLE:

In San Domenico the Fibreno River flows into Liri. The Liri having torrential character runs full with winter rains, Fibreno having character of a spring has its maximum flow in summer with the melting of the snow. This symbiosis makes the scope and beauty of the Isle of Liri waterfalls constant and allowed the industrial development. If this is not a miracle, what is!!!

FOURTH MIRACLE:

The three waterfalls of Isola del Liri. A miracle that stands out alone. One would be special, but there are three. All of unique beauty, even though that of
Valcatoio has suffered the heavy hand of the man who diverted it for a hydroelectric power plant.

FIFTH MIRACLE:

The water, falling from three waterfalls on the city, forms two branches embracing Isola del Liri. Seen from above, next to the castle, these are a unique spectacle in the world. You can see all the industrial archeology of the paper mills, woolen mills, felt manufacture and tanneries, workers' houses and old industrial homes.

Now close your eyes and imagine passing on the Fibreno from San Domenico (at the Sora Expressway exit) passing through the waterfalls of Liri Island and arriving at Posta Fibreno Lake, all in about 14 km.

The 'Land of the Five Miracles' is this!!

In its complex uniqueness, it has a special place in the world, a special land that identifies our territory, its millenial history and our collective memory. A land that excites the visitor and makes you want to go back.

This is a patch of Italy where nature and history have nestled together to paint a picture of unique beauty where the breath of history is felt so strongly.

Here is the millennial history of the Pelasgians, who built the Cyclopean Walls, here is the birthplace of Cicero who also set his text De Legibus here, where he talks about the relationship between laws and social justice. Here St. Francis stayed and had the angel's vision that led him to the renunciation of the priestly ministry and to remain a humble friar for life.

Here is the story of Gregory XIII, that of the Gregorian calendar we still use today, of his son Iacopo Boncompagni who added value to the Castle of Cascata with frescoes of the school of Cavalier D'Arpino, master of Caravaggio.

Here is the story of the first and second industrializations of Napoleon, of the Enlightenment and of the new ideas of the French Revolution, of the French industrialists, of the invention of the continuous paper making machine of Lefebvre, of labour struggles, of the Cartiere Meridionali, of Mutual Workers' Societies that are among the oldest in Italy, and one of the first universities of the people in Italy.

We are lucky, as are all those who come to visit us!
