La lumera, the traditional dish of my grandmother from Noto

I am Netina and I love Noto, my town!
I lived there for a few years but it has always been the place I come back to. I went there in summer and also spent periods at my grandmother's house.
Grandma was happy and I was with her!
I remember a very old traditional dish that she herself prepared: La lumera!
La lumera is made with the pizza dough spread on the pan making its edges overflow.

It is seasoned with tomato sauce and sprinkled with horse cheese. Then the overlapping edges are folded over the same pizza to half cover it leaving the centre uncovered and it is baked.
Once cooked, it is decorated with a little fresh basil.
La lumera is found in bakeries, but did not taste the same flavour as Grandma’s!
There are places that enchant me like in a fairy tale that taste of childhood, of happiness.

Noto was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693 and faithfully rebuilt using the same stones, and the exact same baroque style that distinguishes it.

Walking through ancient Noto is always an emotional experience that brings me back as often as I can.

Noto Marina beach is one of the most beautiful in Sicily. The sea is crystal clear, shimmering and fragrant and with the passage of time, tourist structures, bars and restaurants have arisen that did not exist before.
The countryside is an explosion of aromas of oregano and wild aromatic herbs. And it gives me a unique display in February when the almond trees are in bloom and it all looks like an embroidery.
The culinary delights, culture, beautiful churches, palaces and the characteristic narrow streets make me feel proud to be born here.
In 2002 it was recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site!
I have lived many years abroad and every year, for the holidays I have always spent a few days in the places of childhood.
I have brought friends and acquaintances to Noto.
I captured with my memory snapshots that keep me company, among the beauties of Asia, Europe.
But for 6 months I have been enjoying my memories mixed with reality ... and it's a dream!
