In ancient times called Petescia, Turania is located at 700 meters above sea level and its foundation dates back to the second half of the eleventh century.
Its name appears for the first time in the records of the Abbey of Farfa in 890.
With the decline of the Abbey it became a fiefdom of the Orsini, then the Tagliacozzo, and the Muti. Since 1632, for almost three centuries, it was ruled by the Borghese family.
