ITS - an alternative to university in collaboration with businesses

ITS Tourism has been active in Olevano Romano for a year with a two-year ministerial course in 'Food & Wellness Tourism' (www.itsturismoroma.it) and on May 3rd some young people illustrated their work after a year of training.

Divided into 3 groups, the students illustrated 3 experiential tourism projects focused on food and culture strongly rooted in our territory: one dedicated to Foraging, the collection of wild herbs, one to trekking and MTB routes among the Cesanese wine cellars, and one to the art and paintings of the Grand Tour with itineraries in the historic center of Olevano Romano.

Before describing the meeting, let's tell something about this training system that throughout Europe train professionals who can be immediately ready for the business system of a certain territory.

They are called ITS, Higher Technical Institutes, and are courses of Higher Education that children can undertake after graduating from high school. The one in Olevano Romano was born thanks to a Foundation also participated by universities.

The soul of the foundation and the moderator of the event is Professor Simone Bozzato of the University of Tor Vergata in Rome who illustrated the Olevano Romano course:

''we built this course after many meetings with local entrepreneurs, the GAL Terre di Pregio, the mayors, the restaurateurs (including the conductors of Sora Maria and Arcangelo considered the best trattoria in Italy), the managers of the Golf Club of Fiuggi, the presidents of the Cesanese Way (Strada del Cesanese) of Piglio and Olevano and many other successful entrepreneurs in the area.

This course is strongly embedded in the local reality and could not be replicated in other territories because we want to train exactly the professionals who can help the growth of local businesses.'

To close the day, Umberto Quaresima, mayor of Olevano Romano and one of the engines of development of the entire surrounding area, intervened. He included ITS in the vision of the tourist development of the area in reference to a target that seeks culture and hospitality.

'We must consolidate the interest of tourists who have had the territories of our province at this time. Increasing the quality and variety of the offer by also involving neighboring towns means capitalizing on all the work done and guaranteeing tourists throughout the year'.

The courses are funded by the Italian Ministry of Education and the Lazio Region and include 1,000 hours of training by teachers and entrepreneurs, and 800 hours of internship.
