Searching for the 'uncle of America' broadcasted on Radio Radio

In Rome we say 'gnocchi Thursday' but Thursday is also the day of Amico Comune on Radio Radio, the program commissioned by ANCI Lazio which every week tells a story about a town through the words of one of its administrators, and ours of course.

The secretary Giuseppe de Righi is particularly keen on this appointment which is followed by many radio listeners and informs them about the beauties of the territories, the local experiences and the weekend appointments. It is thanks to Giuseppe's dedication to the promotional aspects of the municipalities that every Thursday I introduce the town by outlining its main attractions and contribute to intriguing radio listeners on weekends in the Lazio territories.

This week the episode was dedicated to the Town Ambassador network project that we are following with Alessia Pieretti, delegate for tourism in the Metropolitan Area of Rome and councilor of Monterotondo.

And for this appointment we wanted to be live and we both went to Radio Radio headquarters for the live broadcast.

We were greeted by the smile of Michela Ceci, with whom I talk every Thursday but we haven't met since the pandemic. Then some selfies with Francesco Vergovich, the morning voice of Radio Radio and now a dear friend, who has only lost his mind since he became a father (love is the greatest force in the world).

We put on the headphones and set off: 'Let's try to create a network of Town Ambassadors in the small towns in the province of Rome. Almost all of them are located in the Aniene Valley, so we are enhancing these beautiful towns' said Alessia.

The Town Ambassador Award is given to those who may have left the country but have kept alive a link with their village of origin. “We are looking for people who can become ambassadors of their village and help small local businesses by buying their products directly, promoting stays in the village to their friends and who can be involved in cultural exchanges”.

On our way we have already met many and now we are creating the network. We went to Vallepietra  where we told the story of Major Evans and John Paparella  from the words of the dynamic mayor Flavio de Santis.

Then we went to Saracinesco  where a calm mayor Marco Orsola  is revolutionizing the whole tiny village thanks to its ability to participate in national and European tenders and to a cultural vision of life in Saracinesco.

Then we were surprised by the smile and welcome of the councilor Benedetta Pistoia and her mayor Aldo Todini of  Canterano where for a moment we met from all over the world.

And again Affile  where we met the mayor Ercole Viri and the deputy mayor Giampiero Frosoni and met many children, and many people fall in love with their village. In the historic center we entered the smallest distillery in Italy managed by Mauro who left San Leo in Romagna and his wife Antonella from the Tuscan Maremma to come to Affile .

Our journey will continue and, in the meantime, if you know stories of deep love towards your native town, write me in private.
