I arrive in Anagni at the blue hour and the small alley suddenly opens up right in front of the stage in Piazza Innocenzo III, revealing to me the magic of the festival and the beauty of Anagni: I almost feel struck by the Stendhal syndrome.
The excitement of the premiere and the dancers is felt in the air. In fact, the first show of the 2023 edition of the Anagni Medieval and Renaissance Theater Festival is a ballet that uses a skilful play of mirrors to amaze the spectator.
The theme chosen this year by councilor Carlo Marino is 'glocal' "a concept developed by the philosopher Zygmunt Bauman to represent what happens when globalization meets the local spirit. Or viceversa.
This intersection of values can become a nightmare but also a strength, depending on how 'high' politics manages to govern the phenomenon. And we in Anagni take care of our strong historical identity but we are also projected towards the change of the future".
The first people I meet in the square are Gaetano D'Onofrio, who calling him a presenter is a reduction of his ability to get the audience into the show before it begins, and Giacomo Zito. We meet Giacomo a few times live but I follow everything he does for the theater and I believe that today he is the best Italian artistic director. His choices are able to enchant even the stones, and in fact the square is crowded with people who can't wait to immerse themselves in the performance.
Behind me a Uruguayan couple who for 5 years have decided to live 6 months in Italy and 6 months in Uruguay. Marcelo had an Italian grandfather, while Patricia had no ties to our country, and they chose Piglio after long reflection. Tomorrow we will interview them at the Fuori Festival together with the councilor Anna de Lellis, meanwhile they told us that since 2019 they have not missed a show of the Medieval and Renaissance Theater Festival in Anagni. I'm very curious.
L’apertura della 30° edizione del Festival del Teatro Medievale e Rinascimentale è stata orgogliosamente fatta dal sindaco Daniele Natalia “siamo il festival più longevo di tutta la Ciociaria e ormai siamo fra le rassegne culturali italiane di più alto valore. Con questa edizione il festival entra nella città con spettacoli della commedia dell’arte nei vicoli e con il Fuori Festival dedicato al Cesanese e non solo. Questo anno abbiamo l’assessore Anna de Lellis che, insieme a Claudia Bettiol, si dedica proprio alla promozione dei prodotti del territorio”. Daniele ha tagliato idealmente il nastro e la magia del teatro è iniziata.
Lo spettacolo è ispirato all’Inferno di Dante Alighieri si chiama “INFERNO” della Nogravity Dance Company (https://www.nogravitytheatre.com), una compagnia fondata da Emiliano Pellisari che fa spettacoli in tutto il mondo ed è inserita in contesti internazionali.
Forse più che uno spettacolo abbiamo assistito ad una installazione artistica. Grazie ad un ad un grande specchio messo in obliquo sul palcoscenico, i ballerini si muovevano sul palco ma guardando lo specchio si aveva l’impressione che volassero. Hanno creato forme ‘umane’ giocando con i loro corpi. Il pubblico è rimasto sorpreso dalla loro bravura e fantasia, ci hanno fatto entrare in un mondo emotivo sconosciuto.
Questo anno alla prima sono venuti godere dello spettacolo e dell’accoglienza di Anagni, l’eurodeputato Matteo Adinolfi e il consigliere comunale di Latina Federica Censi che hanno potuto apprezzare quanto l’Alta Ciociaria sia oggi uno dei territori con più fermento culturale del Lazio e del centro Italia. Aspettiamo sinergie per trasformare i nostri territori in una ambita meta turistica internazionale.
Per chiudere la serata, un grande ringraziamento al direttore tecnico, il grande Peppino Scandorcia, e a tutto l’impegno e l’efficienza della Pro Loco di Anagni. Il loro amore per la città fa sempre la differenza e quando si unisce alla professionalità si è sicuri che il pubblico vivrà emozioni uniche.
