27 August: Radio Radio features Greccio on its “Amico Comune” series

This Thursday we talked about Greccio, a spectacular village in the Province of Rieti, with an ancient history, a casket of history and charm for all tastes, together with its Mayor Emiliano Fabi!

Greccio is a village full of history and legends, immersed in the green of the Sabine mountains. This small town is known all over the world for being the place where St. Francis is said to have staged the first nativity, or living nativity scene! A story that you can learn by going to see the splendid museum of the Nativity, which is located right in the historic center of the village.

A village that we are waiting to find again, and that in the meantime you can get to know with our Greccio Tourist Guide.

We continue our journey to discover the most beautiful and interesting villages of Lazio with our weekly appointment together with Radio Radio and ANCI Lazio, in the program “Amico Comune”, where every Thursday we talk about a town of the Lazio Region together with its Mayor.

We look forward to returning to attend its events once this emergency is over.
See you next week in the company of our listeners and another splendid Municipality of Lazio.

This Thursday we talked about Leonessa, a spectacular village in the Province of Rieti, with an ancient history, a casket of history and charm for all tastes, together with its Mayor Gianluca Gizzi!

Leonessa is a jewel of the Province of Rieti surrounded by greenery, rich in history and folklore that we have known several times, and of which we have written and printed a tourist guide to the villages of Italy. From the Palio del Velluto to all the festivals that celebrate winter on the Terminillo, Leonessa is truly an experience to live.

A village that we are waiting to find again, and that in the meantime you can get to know with our Tourist Guide of Leonessa.

Cagli-by-Bettiol-1-1024x768.jpeg

Playing with culture, in Cagli they are good at that. You understand it immediately when you go down from the Rocca to the town and see illuminated white discs in the sky that are reflected on the floor where some symbols of the city are represented: the theater, the church, the fortress, ...

We immediately enter the theater where Paolo Rossi's company is rehearsing. Cagli is a theater-residence and the companies rehearse their shows before starting the real tours.

There are no chairs in the stalls and the scene ideally descends from the stage and continues in the stalls while the audience observes everything from the stages.

All distances are respected and in addition there is a truly unique experience.

I knew Cagli from the stories of a friend of mine who participates in slow smoke competitions but it is many more.

The story hides a real original episode. In the war between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, the old Cagli was destroyed and the pope ordered 100 municipalities to invest a part of their patrimony for the construction of a new Cagli.

All the municipalities are listed on the ceiling of the council room ... and there are prestigious names.

It took me some time to arrive because we are in the hinterland of Pesaro, in the internal areas that have retained all their charm. Areas of mountains, woods and truffles ...

But only fish at the table! A tasty lunch with the commissioner Benilde Marini who already gives his artistic vein as he smiles and moves.

The last visit is to prisons, and an incredible idea came to me that will take us to newspapers all over the world.

We leave for Pesaro where we have to recover the car, keys, suitcase and ... the head!

In my travels I always try to understand what I can do for tourism and the identity of a territory as a Tourism & Territorial Development consultant.

Sassoferrato-by-Bettiol-5-768x1024.jpeg

With my little methane car, my discovery of the interior of the Marche begins from Sassoferrato.

Two things I expected but many others surprised me. The area was one of the largest sulfur mines in Europe, the country had 12,000 inhabitants ... immediately after the closure more than 4,000 left and many went to work in the steel industry in Michigan where they founded a community with an emblematic name: Iron Mountain, or iron mountain. (READ ALSO)

The second thing I expected was a tribute to Sassoferrato, Giovan Battista Salvi, one of the greatest painters of the seventeenth century at birth. His works are found all over the world and one in Casperia which, coincidence of coincidences, I have to meet in the Thursday program of the Municipality Friend on Radio Radio.

What I did not expect is instead a warm welcome and a gourmet lunch in a small restaurant just opened right in front of the town, La Taverna di Bartolo.

In reality it is a historic inn that has recently been reopened and cooks with all the best local products, including the famous truffles.

Not to be missed in any way, indeed worth a trip.

The meeting with Mayor Maurizio Greci was very interesting (he is an engineer too and we have similar ways of seeing) and we will tell him in an interview because the internal areas are a surprise. And the first story about Cabernardo, the hamlet where the mine was located, has already arrived.

After a tour of the art gallery where there is a beautiful collection of engravers from the Marche with a particular attention to the seventeenth century but with amazing views of Rome in the eighteenth century.

A bottle of water and we leave through the Gorges of the Frasassi Caves. This is goodbye, we will be back!

23 July: Radio Radio features Casperia on its “Amico Comune” series

This Thursday we talked about Casperia perched in the splendid Province of Rieti, together with its Mayor Marco Cossu!

Casperia is considered among the most beautiful ancient villages in Italy and is located on the slopes of Monte Pizzuto, the highest ever in Sabina together with many other peaks that are always among the highest.

The presence of the Fonte Cognolo spring is important, which for all trekking enthusiasts looking for adventure can be reached with a path that goes up to a refuge, at an altitude of 1080 meters.

Among the typical dishes of Casperia there are the inimitable stringozzi, a type of local pasta seasoned in various ways, to be enjoyed during the festivals dedicated to this typical dish or in some local restaurant. The Amaretti are also delicious, made in the same way as a meringue.

A village that we look forward to seeing again, and that in the meantime you can get to know with our Casperia Tourist Guide

Ascoli-Piceno-by-Bettiol-10-1024x768.jpeg

One of the most beautiful squares in Italy, yet not all of them put Ascoli Piceno at the top of the list of 'must' places, the ones to visit absolutely.
Crazy people!

This is a lively city that unites all passions. In the evening in the square with a good Verdicchio and the best Ascolane Olives in the world, a traditional triptych, vegetarian and with truffle.

Then also sage and borage fried while the buildings took on the colors of our Italian flag.
The ice cream from Meletti and it could not be otherwise.

A visit to the church where Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration takes place, at any time of day or night, and a jump to the B&B with windows directly on Piazza del Popolo.
I admit it, I went to look for the wall of the First Kiss of the story!

In the morning a visit to the mayor in Piazza dell’Arringo in one of the most beautiful but also the most 'lively' buildings I have ever visited (READ ALSO).
A jump to the art gallery where I run into a perfect historical carriage of the eighteenth century! How I would have liked to take a stroll! A new mask with one of the groups of the Quintana and we are ready to go!

Molise twinned with Shanghai?

A house that has in its name and in its history a deep link with a territory, La Molisana, and a small publishing house that a few years ago decided to relate the stories of minor Italy, Discoverplaces.

Could they not join?

The story is this: during Covid, Discoverplaces (www.discoverplaces.travel) decided to help people and territories by keeping their stories alive and launched a contest with which it asks people to tell a story related to a town that they love.

Stories that can be fun but also memories, recipes and traditions.

All the stories have been translated into English, and many of the brothers abroad, who have ties to their towns of origin, and potential tourists looking for original and 'real' destinations have been reached.

The original idea behind the contest is that the best stories will be rewarded and so also will the municipalities that inspired them.

So what award miles are there for a town that has a typically Italian product with roots well planted in the area?

And here was born the encounter with La Molisana, a pasta that for years has been produced entirely with Italian grains and that is rewarded for its quality. A company led by the Ferro family that feels Molise and Italy deep down.

"The municipalities that will be the winners will be able to decide whether to use them in schools, to donate them to families or to other facilities, but pasta will certainly help make everyone who receives it happy."

I must say that we have received many beautiful stories from those who remember to love our country and our roots, which are our strength, and we always think big because the risk is that sometimes dreams come true and that reality exceeds fantasy in positive.

The Chinese of the CPAFFC (the association of cities that deals with their internationalization and twinning with foreign cities) also joined the contest and who knows that in the future crossroads between towns may arise and many opportunities will come for our small towns.

To date, Shanghai has also joined the contest ... Molise twinned with Shanghai?

22 July: The Tour Operator “FeelItaly” signs up to our #TheFutureInOurRoots Campaign

Molise makes itself heard!

A splendid region that 'perhaps exists' and that we have come to know throughout our journey to discover the small villages.

After the roar of Sicily, which has accompanied us in recent months, we are finally going to tell the travels and stories of this land made of folklore and unspoiled nature!

Thanks to Andrea, Alessia, Stefania and Christian, the staff of FeelItaly, a Tour Operator specialized in travel to discover Molise who has wholeheartedly joined our contest.

Feel Italy's project is fueled by the love of travel and its land of authentic and unique experiences. Accompanies tourists from Italy and the world to discover the real Molise through personalized experiences in contact with the history and events of its small villages.

A meeting with Molise and its professionals in the tourism sector that comes after our collaboration and accession to the contest by the Italian OBOR Institute and the CPAFFC, the Chinese association that deals with the internationalization and twinning of their cities with others in the world.

A future twinning between Molise / Shanghai? Why not!
We welcome this new collaboration with open arms, and we look forward to having on our portal stories from Molise, the Region that EXISTS!
