Turismo tra i Banchi Vico nel Lazio 13
Turismo tra i Banchi Vico nel Lazio

Our school program Tourism among Desks landed in the middle school of Vico nel Lazio in a meeting with the students and the mayor of the town in the Province of Frosinone.

We played a role-playing game with the students and started by asking what aspirations they have for their future.

Some of them (about 10%) think they will want to work in the catering and hospitality industry, this was the starting point to talk about local food and tourism, starting with their town. What better way to do "incoming tourism" than to think of opening a local activity?

22 Maggio Ritorno a Tor Vergata per la seconda lezione di Scrittura Web
22 May: Return to Tor Vergata University for the second lesson of Digital Writing

We were called by prof. Nicolò Costa to give a testimony of our Discoverplaces group and to practice with the students of the Science of Tourism course of the University of Tor Vergata.

Claudia Bettiol told of how our territories aren't quite prepared to encourage the incoming of tourists, and how this could be improved by what, and how, our towns are written on the web.

A lesson on digital story-telling and also a tutorial with Benedicta Mary Lee on how to write social media posts in order to attract the attention of digital readers.

At the end of the lesson we made each student write a story and we published the best ones in our wbsite, Discoverplaces.travel.

15 May OBOR One Belt One Road
15 May: OBOR One Belt One Road

If someone wants to sell something valuable, who should they look for?

Someone who can afford to spend without problems to have something unique!

Here, this is the definition of luxury.

Luxury is not the ostentation of wealth but the possibility of spending on something unique that only a few people can have.

With this idea in mind, we went to take part in one of the most interesting seminars of the last period (and we participate in many of them), in which we where told the needs and wants of Chinese tourists. They are mainly wealthy men and women between 25 and 44 who want to try something unique.

So we can say that the demand to visit our towns already exists, but are they ready?

The answer is absolutely NO. If they cannot face the already established European tourism of those who return to find their roots, most of our small towns are not psychologically and technically ready to supply the demand for new and exciting experiences by the modern Chinese tourist.

This is why we have founded a hospitality school to stimulate and give out knowledge to the small local operators. That is how and why FOT - Friend of Tourist, was born.

13 May: Three-year Tourism Plan of the Lazio Region

The regional councilor Lorenza Bonaccorsi outlined the Strategic Tourism Plan of Lazio for the three-year period 2019-2021 in the Sala Tevere in the central headquarters of the Region.

The plan comes out of a series of meetings and round tables in the various provinces. It is a plan that indicates a communication strategy for different areas of the region. It starts from a map showing the distribution of beds and accommodation in Lazio and which, in the face of an excess supply in Rome and some coastal towns, shows a lack of tourist accommodation elsewhere.

We were called to make our contribution this day and we decided to emphasize the role of training in the socio-economic transformation of the communities.

If you want to bring tourism to areas that certainly have a wide variety of attractions and opportunities, you have to work on the entrepreneurial culture of young people - on their training in terms of skills needed by the territory but also on the respect that must be had for all the new professions related to tourism services.

Skills that must also be linguistic to fill the void of the almost total absence of knowledge of the English language outside of Rome, a situation that creates a real barrier in relations with tourists.

We can't always all be football coaches: in the end we see the results!

9 May: Meeting at Valmontone Magic Land theme park

Invited by the CEO of the Valmontone park, we participated in a meeting with operators in the tourism sector that was to illustrate the change of pace of the park.
New ownership, but above all new investments and tons of paint. This is the new course in a nutshell.

Investors are an investment fund that took over the property from the court, paid the creditors and closed agreements with the banks with a credible business plan. The exit strategy of the fund is in 5 years so it is really clear that they are interested in the development of the park.

But does the development of the park coincide with the development of the area?

It had been years since I entered a theme park and the feeling that life inside the parks is the same as when I left them, while everything has changed outside the world, creating a certain dystonia.

It is as if the distance between the real world and the world of entertainment has been accentuated, while perhaps it is only my feeling of being an operator in the 'minor' tourism sector, the one linked to culture. However, the word "culture" should be considered in its broadest sense and not limited to the historical and artistic heritage. From food to music, from science to science fiction.

My particular feeling is that Valmontone's Rainbow Magic Land park must become a heritage for the entire community of countries across a vast area. But to do this we need to build bridges that also reflect the type of relationship that must be established so that we can all come out winning: the park with more visitors and the territory itself that becomes the park's emotional promoter and becomes a tourist destination.

Another consideration to which I will reflect again in the coming days (or months) is the age range of the target that has been chosen as the ideal park customer.

In my humble opinion, the ten years of crisis that separate us from the date of inauguration of the Valmontone park have led to so many socio-economic changes that, alongside the traditional target, we can imagine others that can compensate for periods of low turnout.

Other people, however, may be attracted to the park by using it differently. Fun is also a form of culture, but culture can also be fun.

Other suggestions soon, in the meantime "Ad Maiora" for the 10 years of Valmontone Rainbow Magic Land.

1 May: Shareholders' Meeting of the BCC of Rome

My bank is different! Nearly 2,000 voters and 5,000 people at the table for a Member's Day on May 1st at the Fiera di Roma.

Stay tuned. But we wish that Europe and Finance would stop changing the rules of small banks, the only ones really close to people and territories.

On April 14th at 11:00 am inside the Granaio Borghese in Artena we talk about Archeology and important discoveries with the event: “Il Museo, patrimonio comune – Dolorose dispersioni, preziosi ritorni e inaspettate scoperte: l’importanza della storia condivisa” ("The Museum, common heritage -Dairy dispersions, precious returns and unexpected discoveries: the importance of shared history ").

An event organized by the Archaeological Civic Museum "Roger Lambrechts" of Artena in collaboration with the Gruppo Archeologico Artena (Archaeological Group Artena).

The appointment traces the history of some important archaeological finds recovered in the Piano della Civita area.

We will go through 30 years of excavation together with the professor and director of the Museum, Massimiliano Valenti, with the stories of the events that brought these findings into the new installation inside the museum, which is enriched on this occasion with a group of precious gold coins of Byzantine period (VII century AD).

During the day of April 14th they will be exposed for the first time to the public by the directors of the archaeological excavations, Professor Jan Gadeyne and Dr. Cecile Brouillard who will tell the details and the story.

The mayor of Artena, Felicetto Angelini, the Councilor delegated to the Museum, the lawyer Alessandra Bucci, and the President of the Gruppo Archeologico Artena, Patrizio Mele will be present at the event. At the conclusion of the event, the Municipality of Artena will deliver an official recognition parchment for the important role played in the conservation of these finds that have enriched the cultural heritage of the village over the years.

Apr 8: Tourism among Desks to discover the historic center of Bellegra

In Bellegra to learn about the beauties of their town together with the students of class IV!

We returned to the land of panoramas to meet the small tourism entrepreneurs of the School Institute of Bellegra, this time to talk to the greatest of their material heritage. Together with them we explored all the monuments and churches of their country, perfectly described and photographed by the whole class.

After a short lesson on photography, we all went out together to visit some of the most interesting monuments, so that each of the students was able to see the research done in preparation for the meeting.

From the old town, to the Convent of San Francesco to the Cyclopean Walls ... we have seen it all!

It was a great thrill for the small tourists to be able to illustrate their research live, a special thanks to the teachers of the class who guided children with love and dexterity throughout the path that preceded our meeting.

We will be back soon to continue our adventure in the pews, stay tuned!
