Isola del Liri. Church of Santa Maria dei Fiori

The church of Santa Maria dei Fiori in Isola del Liri was built in the nineteenth century on medieval pre-existing structures to guard the rock with the face of the Madonna, the child and a bouquet of flowers.

This was located in a nearby church destroyed by the Bourbons to widen the road.

A legend tells that when the workers tried to take the rock into another church with a cart pulled by oxen they did not succeed. The oxen 3 times always returned to the original point.

So it was decided to build this church that houses the rock and a subsequent painting that depicts the total image of the Madonna.
